Slow Pyrolysis of Quercus cerris Cork: Characterization of Biochars and Pyrolysis Volatiles

نویسندگان

چکیده

Waste cork granules of Quercus cerris bark were subjected to isothermal and non-isothermal slow pyrolysis. The heat the reaction, as well yields properties biochar, bio-oil, pyrolysis gas investigated by thermogravimetric analysis, FT-IR, CHN elemental higher heating value (HHV) determinations, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), chromatography (GC). was carried out in a semi-batch reactor using an or dynamic approach. results demonstrated that is slightly exothermic reaction produces biochars. analysis indicated non-isothermally produced chars have similar fuel compared isothermally chars. FT-IR showed suberin undergoes degree degradation aromatization begins char structure. Bio-oils are also they consist C5–C12 hydrocarbons with C8 carbon compounds making up main fraction. Lighter components, mainly C1–C2 collected phase. overall indicate possible reduced-cost route for production cork-based biochars

Ecotoxicological characterization of biochars: role of feedstock and pyrolysis temperature.

Seven contrasting feedstocks were subjected to slow pyrolysis at low (300 or 350°C) and high temperature (550 or 600°C), and both biochars and the corresponding feedstocks tested for short-term ecotoxicity using basal soil respiration and collembolan reproduction tests. After a 28-d incubation, soil basal respiration was not inhibited but stimulated by additions of feedstocks and biochars. Howe...

Sorption Performance of Quercus Cerris Cork with Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons and Toxicity Testing

Quercus cerris is an important oak species extended in large areas of Eastern Europe and Minor Asia that has a thick bark which is not utilized at all. The sorption performance of cork from Quercus cerris bark with four polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) (acenaphthene, fluorene, phenanthrene, and anthracene) was investigated. Quercus cerris cork was characterized for elemental analysis, ac...

Estimating Profitability of Two Biochar Production Scenarios: Slow Pyrolysis vs. Fast Pyrolysis

We estimate the profitability of producing biochar from crop residue (corn stover) for two scenarios. The first employs slow pyrolysis to generate biochar and pyrolysis gas and has the advantage of high yields of char (as much as 40 wt-%) but the disadvantage of producing a relatively low-value energy product (pyrolysis gas of modest heating value). The second scenario employs fast pyrolysis to...

Slow, Wet and Catalytic Pyrolysis of Fowl Manure

This work presents the experimental results obtained at a pilot plant which works with a slow, wet and catalytic pyrolysis process of dry fowl manure. This kind of process mainly consists in the cracking of the organic matrix and in the following reaction of carbon with water, which is either already contained in the organic feed or added, to produce carbon monoxide and hydrogen. Reactions are ...

Pyrolysis and catalytic pyrolysis of protein- and lipid-rich feedstock

In this study, pyrolysis of microalgal remnants was investigated for recovery of energy and nutrients. Chlorella vulgaris (C.vulgaris) biomass was first solvent-extracted for lipid recovery then the remnants were used as the feedstock for fast pyrolysis experiments using a fluidized bed reactor at 500 o C. Yields of bio-oil, biochar and gas were 53, 31, and 10wt.%, respectively. Bio-oil from C....
